About Rebel Romance Bookstore

From the time I started my first real job–well sort of, student teachers don’t get paid–some small part of me knew the 9-5 life wasn’t for me. That feeling only grew stronger as time went on. Eventually my body and soul both fought against it so hard. I also never felt any joy about the work I was doing. This was all compounded over the last few years as all the health issues I’ve struggled with my whole life were given names and diagnoses that came with the knowledge of their permanence.

I’ve wanted to work at a bookstore for so long. Barnes & Noble didn’t want me in 2016, but I’ve never been able to let the idea go. After I really got back into reading and eventually became an author myself, that dream grew into owning my own bookstore. I watched as friends opened their own, all the while wishing it could be me. I’ve spent years daydreaming about what my life could look like getting out of the 9-5 grind that eats away at my soul and building a life surrounded by books. Now, I’ve finally decided to stop saying “someday” and instead say “fuck it, I’m doing this now.”

In addition to hopefully building a life that works with my disabilities instead of against them, I want this business to help others. That’s why at least 5% of profits (starting with sales when we open, not the kickstarter) will be donated directly to individuals in need of mutual aid.
