About Hoboken Tea Company
I didn't set out to build a tea company. I just wanted better tea than what I could find, for myself and eventually for my community. What started as personal frustration became something I couldn't ignore.
Tea became my anchor during a season I wasn't prepared for. I had left a high-pressure career, was recovering from cancer treatment, and trying to make sense of more change than I expected. Tea gave me something small and steady to come back to. A ritual that didn't ask for anything except five minutes of my attention.
That's when I stopped treating it casually. I studied through the Tea and Herbal Association of Canada and started working toward my Tea Sommelier certification. Not because I wanted credentials, but because I wanted to understand what made good tea actually good.
As a scientist, I've always approached things with curiosity and skepticism in equal measure. That hasn't changed. I research my suppliers, test obsessively, and only work with people I trust. Every tea I sell has passed through my kitchen first. If it's not something I'd reach for on a Tuesday morning, it doesn't belong here.
What I've built is a collection that reflects what matters to me: quality without pretension, intention without performance, and the quiet satisfaction of a cup that's worth your time.
